Root canal treatment: pain-free and effective

The root canal treatment of a tooth is essentially the most central—and at the same time most demanding—procedure for preserving a tooth. However, the first goal is always to avoid this step whenever possible. Our aim is to keep your teeth vital for as long as possible.
Vital teeth have a significantly better prognosis and remain longer in the mouth compared to root-treated teeth.

Unfortunately, many patients come to us too late — for example, because they skip regular check-ups and cleanings and only make an appointment once pain occurs. At that point, it is usually too late to preserve the vitality of the tooth. This “avoidance strategy” not only results in the need for a root canal treatment but sometimes the tooth can no longer be saved at all and must be extracted.

Regular check-ups and professional cleanings help you avoid painful and more costly treatments — and significantly increase the chances of keeping your natural teeth healthy.

When a root canal treatment becomes necessary, we perform it according to the highest current standard:

First, the root canal length is measured electrometrically using an apex locator (Raypex).
For canal preparation, we use instruments such as the SAF (self-adjusting file), which — as the name suggests — adapts to the natural canal shape of your tooth and allows treatment of over 90% of the internal canal wall surface.

After the standard irrigation with sodium hypochlorite, we further disinfect the root canal with a laser (A.R.C. Fox Laser).

To seal the canal system, we use Thermafil obturators. These root canal posts are heated in a special oven before insertion, enabling a three-dimensional, tightly sealed root filling that securely blocks bacterial penetration.

Afterwards, the tooth must be crowned to prevent fracture of the now non-vital tooth and to ensure a long-lasting, bacteria-proof seal.
